Mandaluyong City – The Rizal Technological University (RTU), one of NCR’s biggest universities in terms of population size, signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOU) with the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA) to mainstream volunteerism in RTU’s programs and activities. The MOU Signing was held at the University on Wednesday, 29 March. It was led by PNVSCA Executive Director Mr. Donald James D. Gawe and RTU President Dr. Ma. Eugenia M. Yangco. The Rizal Technological University is the first higher education institution in the National Capital Region (NCR) and the 10th in the country to enter into an MOU with PNVSCA.

As part of the partnership, RTU will designate/create a Volunteerism Office in the University; actively engage its academic and non-academic personnel, students, and alumni on volunteerism; assist PNVSCA in the promotion and advocacy of volunteerism for nation-building and development; conduct research on volunteerism; and assist the PNVSCA in building volunteerism statistics. PNVSCA, on the other hand, will provide RTU with technical assistance to further strengthen its volunteerism-related programs and initiatives and provide the University with relevant information and materials for promoting and advocating volunteerism.

Director Gawe thanked the RTU for the partnership and added that higher education institutions (HEI) truly play a vital role in promoting volunteerism. He expressed his hopes to collaborate with the University in carrying out tangible activities that will revive the spirit of volunteerism, especially among the younger generation.

President Yangco shared that RTU is pleased to sign the MOU with PNVSCA. She added that it would be the pride of the University to be a partner of the Agency and expressed that PNVSCA can rely on RTU’s active support and collaboration.

The PNVSCA has been collaborating with academic institutions nationwide in pursuit of the provisions of Republic Act 9418, also known as the Volunteer Act of 2007, to strengthen volunteerism in the academe through the integration in the curriculum, conduct of research, and extension services.
