Sharing a common vision toward the cultivation of volunteerism as a development strategy as well as the fostering of a conducive environment for volunteers, the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency and the Quezon City Government met on 18 January 2022 to brainstorm on effective strategies on how to realize the vision.

In the meeting, Mayor Belmonte shared her personal experience as a volunteer for the Jesuit Volunteer Program (JVP) as well as her thoughts on volunteer management and how to effectively institutionalize volunteerism. She said that she would like to see how each of the departments/offices in the city are able to tap the services of professionals and other citizens who are willing to volunteer. Mr. Ricky Corpuz and staff of the BCRD shared some existing volunteer-related initiatives which were established with the assistance of PNVSCA and by the Volunteer and Citizen Program (VCP). Councilor Anton Reyes and Atty. Rene Grapilon of the Office of the City Administrator committed to assist in the review and updating of existing local legislations related to volunteerism in the City.

The team agreed to meet again to discuss the details on how to proceed with the implementation of the activities identified.
