The U.S. Peace Corps and the Department of Education’s International Cooperation Office (ICO) and Bureau of Learning Delivery (BLD), with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Small Project Assistance funds, conducted two 8-day online writeshops to develop learning activity sheets for 3rd and 4th quarter Science, English, and Mathematics. The activity sheets will be used by students from Grades 1 to 6.

The writeshops, conducted on August 10-19, 2020 and September 9-18, 2020, were conceptualized in support of the Department of Education’s (DepEd) Learning Continuity Plan. They aimed to capacitate the participants in creating learning materials and self-directed learning activities in English, Mathematics, and Science that align with DepEd’s Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELCs). The learning activity sheets are supplementary materials meant to support the self-learning modules of DepEd.

A total of one hundred ninety teachers, supervisors, and principals from 50 provinces served as writers and field reviewers.  Staff from Peace Corps and the Multigrade Program of BLD-TLD served as the core management and implementation group for the activity.

Each participant worked on developing at least 6 learning activity sheets in the subject area for the quarter assigned to them, consistently ensuring that learning and development principles were properly applied and that the activities will be learner-friendly, especially for the students in remote areas with limited resources.  All Science, English, and Math elementary school teachers will have access to copies of weekly activity sheets for the 3rd and 4th quarter of the school year to supplement their lessons.  The learning activity sheets will go through further review and revision to ensure that students will receive high quality learning materials. Once the learning activity sheets pass the rigorous evaluation process, they will be available for use in all public schools in the country.
