To recognize the exceptional volunteer work of individuals and organizations that supplement the government’s response to the ongoing pandemic, PNVSCA soft launched the 2021 Search for Outstanding COVID-19 Volunteers (SOCV) on30 July 2021 via Zoom. This event was attended by more than 40 representatives and volunteerism focal points of various regional line agency partners and inter-agency technical committees.
In her inspirational message, NEDA Undersecretary for Regional Development Group Mercedita A. Sombilla reiterated the importance of volunteerism especially in these trying times, “As we navigate through this pandemic, we need the collective efforts of all sectors of society in moving our country forward. It is therefore uplifting to witness our fellow Filipinos who have come together to aid our kababayans in need. During this very challenging time in our history, we have seen individuals who have the heart to go the extra mile to take risks and respond to the needs of other people even though they also bear the difficulties caused by the health crisis. These are the people who are deserving of our recognition. This is the essence of this year’s Search for Outstanding COVID-19 Volunteers.”
A short video presentation of the 2020 SOCV winners and awarding ceremony was played during the launching followed by a presentation of an overview of the 2021 SOCV guidelines and timeline by Ms. Fely Baday, Officer-in-Charge of the Policy, Advocacy and Technical Services Division.
PNVSCA Executive Director Donald James D. Gawe also introduced the new National Volunteer Month Honorary Chair, Dr. Geraldine T. Zamora, noting her remarkable volunteering initiatives in terms of health which benefitted indigent patients.
The full launch of the 2021 SOCV is on 18 August 2021.
