The League of Corporate Foundations (LCF) in partnership with Telus International Philippines Community Board organized a learning session for LCF members entitled “A Day to Acknowledge Volunteers for their Action and their Value and to Promote their Work in their Communities" on 6 December 2018 at Telus House, McKinley West, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.

Ms. Helen Orande, Executive Director of the LCF and Mr. Warren Tait, Vice President for Brand, Marketing and Culture of Telus delivered the opening remarks for the session. Ms. Orande encouraged the LCF members to practice responsible corporate citizenship. Mr. Tait, on the other hand, shared that the majority of Telus employees are engaged with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) or community sustainability.

Speakers from the government, non-government organization (NGO) and private sector were invited to discuss various topics related to volunteerism.

The first topic — the National Volunteer Month was presented by Ms. Corazon Macaraig, Chief Volunteer Service Officer of PNVSCA. She tackled the legal basis, objectives, themes, implementation mechanism and platforms for participation in the NVM. Ms. Macaraig also shared that volunteerism is included in the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2017-2022 as a tool to achieve the socioeconomic goals of the country.

Ms. Macaraig was followed by Ms. Phoebe Carrera, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager of Telus International Philippines Community Board who discussed innovations in volunteer engagement and the notable positive effects to their organization since their employees started volunteering.

Ms. Ma. Dolores Santiago, President of the International Association for Volunteer Effort - Philippines presented the importance of volunteerism to build resilient communities. Ms. Santiago highlighted that volunteerism is involved in achieving the people’s common good.

The learning session is part of the observance of the celebration of National Volunteer Month this December.
