France Volontaires Philippines in partnership with the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA) and other Volunteer Involving Organizations (VIOs) supported the celebration of the International Volunteer Day (IVD) as they held an outreach program for the Dumagats in Sitio Nayon in Tanay, Rizal on December 5.

The Dumagat community of Sitio Nayon has approximately 90 families with about 150 children ages 1-16 years old. Most of the members of the community lacks of education because of the distance of the school from the place where they live. Because of this immediate need of school, a Dumagat, Lodema Dela Cruz Doroteo , who was first to have a bachelor degree in their tribe, started a community school called “Paadela E Denomagat”. The school provides basic education not only for the Dumagat children but also for their elders who do not have proper education. The IVD Outreach Program aimed to give assistance to the children as well as their families.

The program starts with a fun-filled games facilitated by volunteers where Dumagat children actively and energetically participated in all the activities. Bags with school supplies and toys from France Volontaires and partners were handed out. Korean International Cooperation Agency Philippines (KOICA), gave away umbrellas to the Dumagat mothers. Smiles in their eyes and faces were seen as the community joyfully received their early Christmas gifts.
