07 June 2018 Volunteers united for Brigada Eskwela

The Department of Education (DepEd) officially opened classes in public primary and secondary schools nationwide on June 4, 2018. In preparation for the opening of classes, teachers, uniformed personnel, parents, and volunteers gathered days ahead to prepare classrooms for conducive use of students.

DepEd Department Order No. 066, s. 2018 officially declared Brigada Eskwela to take place on May 28 to June 2, 2018 with the theme "Pagkakaisa Para sa Handa, Ligtas, at Matatag na Paaralan Tungo sa Magandang Kinabukasan." DepEd enjoined stakeholders of the education sector to play an active role by sharing their time, effort, and resources in this year's activities.

On May 28, 2018, DepEd CALABARZON led the regional kick-off program and caravan at Biñan Elementary School, Biñan, Laguna. Executive Director Joselito C. De Vera of the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA) graced the event and delivered a message to recognize the efforts of the volunteers in helping prepare school facilities for the resumption of classes. He encouraged the attendees to continue engaging in volunteering activities. He said that Brigada Eskwela is part of the Bayanihang Bayan Program where the government provides volunteering opportunities for the private sector.

The City Government of Biñan, DepEd Biñan City, and PLDT had a contract signing for a project on the provision of wifi facilities in public schools in the city. PLDT also donated 1,200 tablets for senior high school students.

Other dignitaries present during the program include Congresswoman Marlyn B. Alonte-Naguiat, Biñan City Mayor Walfredo R. Dimaguila, Jr., USec. Lorna Dig-Dino of DepEd, and Regional Director Diosdado M. San Antonio and Assistant Regional Director Francis Cesar B. Bringas of DepEd CALABARZON.

DepEd CALABARZON is a partner of PNVSCA in implementing the International Volunteer Service Program (IVSP) since 2007. They hosted volunteers from US Peace Corps and Korean International Cooperation Agency.### VF
