30 May 2018 PNVSCA, NYC promote volunteerism in youth

The National Youth Commission (NYC) held its first Youth Volunteers' Camp last 25 May 2018 at Batangas Country Club, Batangas City. Gathering active youth volunteer partners, NYC took advantage of this opportunity for the participants to meet, build networks, share their volunteer stories, serve as an inspiration to fellow youth, and most importantly, fan the flickering passion of patriotism to give service to Filipino people.

The Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA) shared with youth volunteers in attendance their role in helping build a nation of volunteers and contributing to national development through their volunteer service. NYC invited PNVSCA to this event to provide an overview of volunteerism in the Philippines. With its continuous advocacy to engage multisector in volunteerism, PNVSCA encouraged the participants to promote volunteerism in the youth sector and be active partners of the government by making the spirit of bayanihan, the Filipino expression of volunteerism, a way of life.

Search for Outstanding Volunteers (SOV) awardees Dr. Gerry Duwin Dela Zerna and Mr. Marc Paolo Calalang also participated in the activity as resource persons. Mr. Calalang delivered an inspiring message to the participants on his journey toward organizing the Muntinlupa Junior Rescue Team, an organization working on the sector of disaster risk reduction and management. He said that it was not easy at first and there were people who doubted their intention as volunteers but through hard work and dedication, they made their mark in their community and established their integrity as a volunteer organization.

Dr. Dela Zerna shared his extensive experience in volunteerism and created new model and ideas that the youth may follow in organizing volunteer organization and implementing volunteer programs, projects, and activities.

NYC and PNVSCA will continue their partnership in advancing the advocacy on volunteerism among the youth.### VF
