This December, the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA) invites individuals and organizations to become modern-day heroes, as it leads the celebration of the National Volunteer Month (NVM) 2017. This year's theme "Boluntarismo: Daan Tungo sa Pagbabago" calls on every Filipino to become a change catalyst, even in his/her own little ways, through joining or organizing volunteer activities aligned with the local and international development priorities

"The collective participation of both the public and private sectors will be crucial in nurturing a culture of bayanihan even in these modern times. In this season of giving, we encourage the general public to give a piece of themselves to others by engaging or conducting volunteer activities this month and even year-round,"said PNVSCA Executive Director Joselito C. De Vera.

Organizations which initially responded to the NVM 2017 Call for Participation through conducting volunteer activities in December in observance of the NVM are the Quezon City Government, Makati City Disaster Risk Reduction Management, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Philippine Council for Agriculture and Fisheries, Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office VI National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Region IV-A, NEDA Region XI, New Era University, Colegio de San Juan De Letran Calamba, Philippine Red Cross, and iVolunteer Philippines.

Major NVM activities spearheaded by the PNVSCA include the Awarding Ceremony of the Search for Outstanding Volunteers 2017 on December 15, 2017 to be held at the Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria, Ortigas Center, Quezon City.
