“Bayanihan” advocates in Central Luzon convened to exchange volunteering insights in the “Forum on Volunteerism: A Vision for the Future” conducted by Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency, in collaboration with the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) III, last 24 August 2017 at the NEDA III Regional Office in San Fernando City .

Through the combination of lectures, small group discussions, and workshop exercises, participants from the academe, local government units, regional line agencies, non-profit organizations, and civil society organizations envisioned their hopes for the future of volunteerism and learned from each other based on each sector’s volunteering experiences.
NEDA Region III Director Severino Santos emphasized the importance of the volunteerism initiatives of both the public and private sectors in achieving the regional and national development plans. “We invited stakeholders to generate diverse perspectives and vision on volunteerism, as well as recommendations to promote volunteerism.” Director Santos said.

To set the floor for discussion and workshop sessions, NEDA Assistant Regional Director Agustin C. Mendoza provided a briefing on Ambisyon 2040 and Central Luzon’s Development Plan, while PNVSCA Chief Volunteer Service Officer Corazon Macaraig discussed the basic concepts of volunteerism.

Outputs of the visioning exercise pointed out passion for service, public-private partnerships, sustainable development, and good governance as common elements in the participants’ collective aspirations for local and regional volunteering.

PNVSCA Executive Director Joselito C. De Vera thanked the attendees for generously sharing their ideas, lessons and recommendations in the conduct of their organization’s volunteer programs.

The activity is part of the forum series conducted by PNVSCA nationwide to engage various sectors in collaborative consultations towards the development of a national policy agenda on volunteerism. Regions IV-A and V will be the next target participants for the next leg of the forum series in September and October.
