Armed with the goal to craft a national policy and action agenda that will guide the voluntary sector in responding to the needs of vulnerable sectors, the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA) officials and staff will travel to Cagayan de Oro City to start the Mindanao leg of regional multi-sectoral consultation forum.

The PNVSCA partners with the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Region 10 to gather advocates of volunteerism from different sectors in the said region and to conduct the ‘Forum on Volunteerism: A Vision for the Future,’ which will be held on 25 May 2017 at the Limketkai Luxe Hotel in Cagayan de Oro City.

NEDA- 10 Regional Director Leon M. Dacanay, Jr., is expected to present Ambisyon Natin 2040, Philippine/ Regional Development Plan 2017- 2022 and Opportunities for Volunteerism, while PNVSCA will discuss the significant role of volunteerism in development.

The Forum aims to generate ideas among 70 participants from Regional Line Agencies, Local Government Units, Not-for-Profit Organizations, Private corporate and Government Owned and Controlled Corporations and the Academe on how volunteerism can support the Philippine Development Plan 2017- 2022. It is part of the series of forum being conducted by the PNVSCA in the National Capital Region, Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

PNVSCA Executive Director Joselito C. de Vera said the forum will serve as a venue for the different sectors to discuss concrete volunteering strategies, existing volunteer programs and new initiatives that their particular sector could implement in order to contribute to the achievement of development goals of the government.

Executive Director De Vera further noted that volunteerism has evolved through the years to provide the much needed assistance, not only in socio-civic activities, relief and rehabilitation, but also in development efforts that would uplift the socio- economic conditions of the marginalized and vulnerable sectors of the community.

The PNVSCA is the government agency mandated to promote and coordinate volunteer programs and services in the Philippines. PNVSCA closely works with other government agencies, non-government organizations, the academe, the corporate group, the media and other partners in converging and linking the different volunteering efforts and resources so that they are aligned with national priorities and assist especially the marginalized sectors and communities. PNVSCA takes the lead in advocating and recognizing the contributions of volunteers to nation-building and international cooperation.
