In line with its commitment to promote volunteerism in public-private partnerships (PPP), the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency participated in the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Business Ethics Seminar-Workshop organized by the Community Relations Office of the City Government of Quezon City last 23 March 2017.
Mr. Kenneth Siruelo, representative of PNVSCA Executive Director Joselito C. De Vera, discussed the significance of corporate volunteering in the country’s effort to foster greater citizen participation in the country’s development programs. Other speakers who discussed the basic concepts of social entrepreneurship, corporate volunteering, CSR, and PPP were Dr. Maria Faina L. Diola, Ms. Dulce Festin Baybay, and Mr. Bryan Cesar Asiatico. Quezon City Councilor Ranulfo Z. Ludovica and Justice Cecilia Muñoz Palma Foundation, Inc Executive Director Ms. Emily Palma also shared their experiences and insights in engaging the private sector in their volunteer programs.
Attended by business organizations, small and medium enterprises, non-profit organizations, and representatives from the public sector, the seminar-workshop aimed to encourage SMEs and business organizations to establish a Volunteer Citizenship Program (VCP) as part of their corporate social responsibility. During the afternoon session, participants were asked to craft a two-year plan in engaging volunteers in CSR projects/activities.
The seminar-workshop is one of the strategic activities conducted by the Bayanihang Bayan Program sa Quezon City (BBP sa QC) under the Community Relations Office. Through the establishment of BBP sa QC in 2014, Quezon City became one of the pioneer local government units to create a VCP in support of the Republic Act 9418.
