Written by: Kenneth Siruelo

The Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA) hosted the hand over of chairpersonship of the Regional Search Committee (RSC) of the National Capital Region (NCR) Search for Outstanding Volunteers Regional Search Committee (SOV-RSC) last 13 March 2017.

The Bureau of Local Government Development-Department of the Interior and Local Government handed over the NCR SOV-RSC to the DILG-NCR led by Director Maria Lourdes L. Agustin. BLGD- DILG Director Anna Liza F. Bonagua was represented by Ms. Charity V. Agbayani and Ms. Evelyn A. Castro.

BLGD-DILG recommended DILG-NCR to chair the committee, believing that it can further elevate the conduct of the SOV as it has the database, linkage and established partnerships to ensure better participation and generation of more nominations in the NCR. In accepting the chairpersonship, Director Agustin acknowledged that it will both be an opportunity and a challenge to chair the NCR-RSC. Opportunity, as the Department will meet new active partners from both the private and government sector which may lead to future collaboration towards strengthening the capability of local government units through active people participation and a challenge in meeting the heightened expectations.
Executive Director Joselito C. De Vera assured Director Agustin that PNVSCA will work closely with her team chair to ensure a smooth transition and successful conduct of the 2017 SOV.

Since 2001, fifty-one (51) national awardees came from the NCR including Senator Richard J. Gordon, Ms. Rosa Rosal, Mr. Ricardo E. Reyes Jr., Philippine Red Cross, Girl Scouts of the Philippines, BPI Foundation, PLDT Employee Volunteers, and Metrobank Purple Hearts Club, among others.
