08 March 2017 PNVSCA launches the 2017 Search for Outstanding Volunteers

This March, the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA) kicks off its annual nationwide Search for Outstanding Volunteers (SOV). The SOV aims to pay tribute to the unsung and ordinary Filipino citizens and organizations whose services contribute to the country’s development priorities.

“With the full implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and the launch of the new Philippine Development Plan, we are excited to recognize another batch of exceptional volunteers from different regions to learn more about their various programs and projects and to establish strategic partnerships to further synergize the country’s volunteerism initiatives,“ said PNVSCA Executive Director Joselito C. De Vera. He encourages the public to nominate deserving volunteers across the country.

The Search is open to individuals and organizations currently providing volunteer assistance in the Philippines. Individuals of Filipino citizenship - Filipino or local chapters of foreign/international non-profit organizations; and Filipino or local chapters of foreign/international corporate organizations are entitled to join the SOV. This yearly centerpiece event culminates with the awarding ceremony during the celebration of the National Volunteer Month (NVM) in December.

Nominations are accepted for the following categories:

  1. National Outstanding Volunteer Award:

    1. Individual: Youth and Adult
    2. Organization: Not-for Profit and Corporate

  2. Volunteer Lifetime Achievement Award:

    1. Individual
    2. Organization

The Special Citation award is also conferred to outstanding volunteers who do not qualify under the regular SOV categories but are deemed equally meritorious in accomplishment.

Nominations should be submitted on or before 15 July 2017 to the RSC which handles the area where the volunteer/volunteer service organization is based (i.e. nomination for a volunteer based in Laguna shall be forwarded to NEDA Region IV-A).

The Search is conducted by the PNVSCA and the National Volunteer Month Steering Committee (NVM-SC), in cooperation with the Regional Search Committees chaired by the NEDA Regional Offices, the Department of the Interior and Local Government-National Capital Region for NCR, and the Regional Planning and Development Office in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. The RSCs are in charge of the receipt, validation and documentation of the nominations in respective regions. A National Selection Committee (NSC) selects the national and regional awardees.

Since 2001, 138 volunteers and volunteer organizations have been recognized by the national government, through the SOV. Previous awardees include Senator Richard Gordon, Ms. Rosa Rosal, Mr. Efren Peñaflorida, Mr. Ricky Reyes, Philippine Red Cross, Girl Scouts of the Philippines, BPI Foundation, PLDT Employee Volunteers, and Metrobank Purple Hearts Club, among others.

Information on how to participate and nominate to the SOV, including the RSC directory, is available at www.pnvsca.gov.ph and the agency’s Facebook page: www.facebook.com/innovatecooperateinspire. The public can also contact PNVSCA at (02) 277 7389 or send their queries to info@pnvsca.gov.ph.
