The Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency and the Commission on Higher Education strengthened their partnership in the promotion of “bayanihan” in the academe with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) last 7 February 2017.

The MOU aims to further espouse nationalism and passion for service among the students and other members of the academic community through the conduct of collaborative advocacy and communication activities on volunteerism in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).

PNVSCA Executive Director Joselito C. De Vera considers this MOU as another milepost that manifests the Commission’s support to maximize the potential of youth volunteering and the academe in the achievement of both local and international development priorities. There is a growing number of volunteering initiatives in the HEIs, such as the University of the Philippines, Batangas State University, Siliman University , to name a few.

CHED and PNVSCA conducted a collaborative volunteerism story writing contest in 2016, which enabled undergraduate students to share the inspiring and diverse stories of volunteers in different regions. CHED is also a member of the Multi-Sectoral Advisory Body and National Volunteer Month –Steering Committee wherein PNVSCA serves as Secretariat.
