Volunteerism is an integral part of the way of life of the Filipino since the time our forefathers have practiced the valued tradition of “Bayanihan”.  Beginning as a family and neighborhood mutual support system, volunteerism has evolved through the years to provide the much needed assistance, not only in socio-civic activities, relief and rehabilitation, but also in development efforts that would uplift the socio-economic conditions of the marginalized and vulnerable sectors of the community.  Volunteers from all sectors of society also contribute to the attainment of the country’s development objectives and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

Volunteers exemplify the altruism of man by serving without thinking of any reward.  In past and present development challenges faced by our country and people, Filipinos have always mobilized themeselves as volunteers and, time and again, been able to overcome these challenges.

PNVSCA is the government agency mandated to coordinate and promote volunteering in the country. We are therefore committed to making volunteerism a way of life for every Filipino.  Our mission is to help build healthy and vibrant communities by strengthening the capacity of the voluntary sector through assistance in community-based initiatives. We align volunteer technical assistance with the Philippine development priorities and needs of underserved communities across the country and enable organizations to build on their strengths and enhance their capabilities. PNVSCA and our local partner organizations rely on the passion, talent and energy of dedicated volunteers.

We are proud that in the Philippines, the private sector and the government are working together to recognize and institutionalize the laudable work of volunteers and making the spirit of Bayanihan alive. This partnership will inspire more people to share their expertise and create a difference - a betterment in the lives of peoples, both in the local and international communities.
